Hello

I'v been reading a few papers about the (relatively) newly discovered phylum Acidobacterium. From what iv read it seems like any organism from this phylum would be a safe bet for antibiotic production. Large genome, soil dwelling organism, production of PKS. In spite of its being hard to culture. Yet i can’t find any papers on subjects. Im tempted to have a go my self. Big Grin

Hello!

I am writing a paper on the genetically modified papaya (55-1), engineered to contain a coat protein gene of the papaya ringspot virus.. As far as I understand, this gene is used for cross protection (use of a mild virus variety to protect the plant against damage caused by the more severe variety of the same virus)

Here is my question! I have to explain the process of how it was engineered, and so far found information that describes how a agrobacterium tumefaciens plasmid was used, containing the coat protein and a few antibiotic selectable markers. However, in the same paragraph, I also read that the plasmid DNA was added to the papaya genome by "particle bombardment" - which would be the use of a gene gun.

So, is it possible to use both methods or am I misunderstanding the process?

Also, could someone explain to me what exactly promotors and cassettes are and how they are used to engineer the plant?

Thank you so much!

Hi, Does anyone know what had caused the recent 3x price increase for bottled media? I used to be to buy a 500 ml DMEM for ~$6.00 last year. Now it is ~$18.00. This happens when our research dollars shrinks.

SOOO Frustrating!

Well, I'm using catechin for my polyphenol oxidase assay to determine the substrate specificity. But the problem is when I try to use 50mM above, the concentration seems to be very high which the spectrophotometer shows more than 4.500. What should I do?? I couldn find any info from the website or journals. Should I dilute it? And I should dilute the substrate only or together with the enzyme? Please help me ! Thanks a lot !!Sad

Hello!

I have a assignment in my school were i have to explain the expressions trans-gene and cis-gene. I already explained what trans-gene means in my assignment but i don't know about cis-gene. I already looked it up at the Internet and in my biotech-books with no luck. Please help!

Hey all,
I am a relatively new user to this forum. I joined because this was an excellent opportunity to gain opinions from other students, professionals like me around the world. I live in India, doing my fourth year in M.Sc(Integrated) - Biotechnology, and I am looking for opportunities where I can do a Summer Internship/Training program for May-June,2012. Though, I have come across many Companies and Institutes offering the same, I would like some additional Info, especially about centres, where you needn't pay.
I would be really greatful, if you can post your opinions here. Smile

Take care.

This is the infection basically comprising of bacteria, cause the effect of multiple diseases
upon the tissues of the body, its another name is staph, this was derived from the greek language. Staph-related illness can range from mild and requiring no treatment to severe and potentially fatal.

Depression means anxiety caused by undue taking the wrong path which forbidden by the God. Today major problem is the financial problems which not meet to the daily expenditure in the life of man. Our media can play a vital role in this regard how to get rid of this situation.

I am having problems with background on one of the ELISA kits I make. I was wondering if someone can explain to me what the purpose of Pig IgG is in the ELISA sensitizing solution along with the antibody specific for the kit.

The Recent scientific research highlight the causes of depression. Genetic predisposition and hormones linked to stress can play a role in mental stress and depression. The wide range of treatments causes like hormonal imbalances and stress.

Energy drink will not be able to provide you bunch of energy as promised in the advertisement. As a smart consumer we need to know what is inside the product we consume and whether it worth it or not. However, this is only a quick bandage but not a cure. If you like to feel energetic all day, the best way is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat good food, have good rest and be happy always.

Dear Colleague,

My name is Harry and I am from Indonesia, undertaken a degree on Biomedical Science at MDIS, Singapore with University of Bradford as Partner University.

I am particularly interested in the research of MAPK Signalling Cascade. I was wondering if any of the colleague have good journal (preferably on the recent year and Free FULL TEXT) that shown the advancement on the research. I prefer if it discussed in the general view but not so general to include everything published on the year 2000 below. For example, the recent techniques to identify a given intercellular signalling compound not discovered 10-15 years ago. Along that lines.

I am really grateful for any assistance given.

regards,
Harry

Hi.

First of all, I have apologize for opening this thread under this discussion section since this thread is actually concerned about studying Biotech program in graduate level without a related undergrad degree. I have opened a thread under the right section but I need some advices urgently, so here it goes.

As I said, I have a Sociology degree with NO science background whatsoever. Yet I came across the concept of genetic engineering and cloning by chance and I am greatly interested in them.

Alternatively, can someone tell me if Postbaccalaureate Premedical Programs leads me to the biotech graduate school?

If the answer is no, is there any other ways can get me into the biotech graduate school?

Thanks!

Hi.

I want to know if it is possible for me to get into a Biotechnology graduate school with a Sociology undergrad degree with NO science background at all?

If not possible, would those Postbaccalaureate Premedical Programs lead me to the graduate school?

If the answer is no again, is there any ways can get me into the graduate school?

Thanks!
