GATE Advice to Low Scorers
(04-30-2015, 08:16 PM)SunilNagpal Wrote: Hello  Pratiksha,

Look for MNNIT Allahabad (there are chances in getting it in 2nd-4th round). NIT Durgapur's masters in Biotechnology is also well renowned (i'm not sure of their cut-off criteria though). For Biomedical, NIT Raipur is also there (not so famous though).

Placements prospects at NIT Rourkela aren't great, but it's definitely in top 10 NITs. Personally, I believe that your placement is greatly controlled by your pro-activeness as well, apart from the repute of the institute. If you excel well in academics and co-curricular activities, and handle the placement activities of your department, no one can deprive you of a good placement.

Following is a list of Top 10 NITs for Biotechnology (based on personal perception, placements, reviews from alumni, research spectrum etc).

1) NIT Warangal
2) NIT Trichy (Bioenergy Engg. in Energy Engg. Department)
3) NIT Suratkal (Industrial Biotechnology in Chemical Engg. Dept)
4) NIT Calicut (Nanotechnology)
5) MN NIT Allahabad
6) NIT Durgapur
7) NIT Rourkela
8) NIT Hamirpur (Center for Energy and Environment)
9) MNIT Jaipur (Center for Energy and Environment)
10) NIT Kurukshetra and Jalandhar

Hope it helps

Best wishes
Sunil
Thank you Sunil for that analysis!
What about Biotechnology in NIT Bhopal and Bioinformatics in IIIT Allahabad?

Also, I have been shortlisted for IIT Bombay's Mtech program in Biomedical
With respect to the interview, what should I thoroughly prepare?
Is final year project and one subject of my choice enough?

Pratiksha

Hi, does anyone know if the interview shortlists for M. Tech at IIT Guwahati and IIT Hyderabad have been released? If not, when are they releasing it? Where can I find them?

Hi,

They haven't been released yet. There aren't any updates on the sites either.

Hello Pratiksha,
For IIT Bombay, be thorough on your project. The discussion should start from your project and shift towards your suitability to Biomedical Engineering. Topics related to tissue/scaffold engineering, drug delivery, nanobiotech/medicine should be expected. Conceptual know how of elementary physics related to electronics/electricals is also recommended.

But your project is an important factor indeed.

NIT Bhopal should be last resort.

Thumbs up for Bioinformatics in IIIT Hyderabad! Great place for those who are passionate to learn.

Hope it helps

Best wishes

Hi raazn,

DTU is a good university. Biotech department of DTU is more inclined towards Bioinformtics. Placement prospects are good (IT companies would be the best shots).

Hope it helps

Best wishes
