GATE Advice to Low Scorers
#91
(04-17-2015, 10:47 PM)kmsri Wrote: Hi Mr Sunil

Do you have any idea why IITD and IITM have Written Test followed by  Interview for Finalizing MS-R Candidates?

Preparation required for Written test is any different from Interview Preparation?

Any guidance on how to go about preparing for both would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sri

Hello tyson,

Its extremely strange that CESE didnt call you despite meeting the GATE cutoff.
I am not sure about the reason, but you shouldnt loose hope on IIT Madras, Guwahati and Kharagpur.

I am leaving out IITK because of it's repute (who knows they might behave equally strangely). A possible reason could be large number of applications and filtrations based on performance in B.Tech/GATE. But ideally, everyone who clears the cutoff holds the right to opportunity.

On the other hand, IITK is also famous for giving chance to maximum people to showcase their skills in screening.

So keep the hopes up.

Best wishes
Sunil

Hello Sri,

MSR is a research based degree (often dubbed as mini-PhD). Screening the candidates (who are often large in numbers) for limited projects available under the faculty of IITs becomes really very important. You cant interview fifties/hundreds of candidates for 2-3 positions. Written followed by interview thus becomes inevitable.

Not much special needs to be covered for written n interview. Focus well on concepts related to the specialization you are applying for. Focus very well on your project. Stay confident in interview. If you are not able to answer a question in the interview just express it humbly rather than sitting mute.

All the best

Best wishes
Sunil

Thank You Mr Sunil.. I am also applying for the MS-Research program offered by Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Jakkur, Bangalore? What is your opinion about this course? The course work is on Evolutionary and Organismal Biology and no other specialisations available.

What is your opinion and rating about this institute, course work ? Once again thank you for taking to give your guidance

Hey Tyson,
I haven't gotten a call from IITK. I guess I haven't been shortlisted for the screening. Can you please tell me what the dates for IITK test and interview are ?
