GATE from biotechnology or life sciences
#1
Sir, I m student of b.tech biotechnology 4th year. I want to appear for GATE examination but i want to seek advice weather i go for biotechnology or for life sciences because while going through syllabus i get to know that engineering mathematics is also in the syllabus of GATE Biotechnology and that is not the case with GATE life science. Please suggest me for which one i should go.

GATE BT is more inclined towards technical and applied aspects of Biology, GATE XL has an inclination towards the theoretical details of the subject matter. GATE BT is perfectly suited to the curricula of B.Tech Biotechnology, Biomedical and Biochemical students, whereas GATE XL is more suited to MSc students of Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology and for those students who are theoretically better inclined.

Engineering mathematics accounts for about 15 marks of the total score of GATE.There are not too much hard questions from Mathematics. You have to just practice it more and more.

For mathematics must do the Linear Algebra ( Matrix and Determinant must topic ), Sequence and series, Differential equations and Probability (This is very important to solve many other questions in genetics so be master of this). You ‘ll get min 10 marks out of 15 (approx ) if you cover the above mentioned topics.

After that most importantly solve this section from all the previous papers. Hope you ‘ll able to do most of them.
