Well well well, Metagenomics has been my bread and butter for last 3 years! It is no doubt a very active field!

We have had collaborations with IGIB, IIT Delhi, University of Hyderabad, IISERs and THSTI, so they are definitely active players. I am not sure about IISc though.

There is a good scope of Bioinformatics. Almost every IT company is shifting its focus to LifeSciences and that has lead to establishment of Bioinformatics Research Groups in each of the IT company in India.

Accenture works on it, IBM does, TCS does, Cognizant does, Wipro does and then there are numerous dedicated start ups as well. It's a hot field and has enough room for the enthusiastics.
