Both exams are of great importance you should prepare for both and i've already told you in above conversation that GATE is for getting admission into M.Tech or MS not for MSc and you can only appear for GATE in MSc final year

It totally depends on your interest in which discipline you want to make your career.

for genetic engineering forest research Institute is best or not

FRIs forest genetics division works on genetic improvement of trees and plants.So it's a good option
