Aptitude Question: Can be useful for various competitive exams including GATE BT.

A student sent 120 emails in 5 days for getting a PhD position. Each day he/she sent 5 mails more than the previous day. How many emails did he/she send on day 1?

14 emails on first day
14+19+24+29+34=120 emails in five days
Approach? What if someone asks for 12000 mails in 50 days? With the trend of 10 mails more than previous day. It's always good to have a universal approach..

Let total no.of mails = 't'
Mails sent on first day = 'x'
No.of mails sent more than the previous = 'k'
No.of days, mails were sent ='n'

nth term = 'x+(n-1)k'
Sum of n terms totals down to total no.of mails sent i.e 't'
t = (x)+(x+k)+(x+2k)+(x+3k)+...+(x+(n-1)k)
t = (nx )+ k.n.(n-1)/2

12000 = 50x + 10.50.49/2
12000 = 50x + 12250
50x = 250
x = 5

Sunil sir I want to ask u some suggestion.
Sir I am persuing my MSc.Biotechnology 3 rd sem and I have completed my bachelors in BSc.Agril.Biotechnology(4yrs course).and now I want to go for QA/QC sector in biotechnology, for that could u please guide me how to apply for this or in what way I have to prepare/elligible myself for it.
