As per recent media reports, recent quality audits conducted at Maggi production units of Nestle in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, India have revealed some startling facts about Maggi. MSG (a potent allergen to many people) and Lead (a highly potent carcinogen)have been found to be in high concentrations (well above permissible limits). Reports have indicated the presence of lead at as high as 17ppm whereas the permissible concentration is not more than 0.01 ppm!
FSDA (Food and Drug Safety Administration) of Uttar Pradesh has reportedly written to Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) to take immediate action and ban the production.

Let's wait and watch the fate of '2 minutes Maggi Noodles' in India.

Till then stay safe, eat safe and live safe.

NOTE:
These are not my personal views/stories, I read it in TOI. Entire Indian Media is abuzz with this development! Do share your views and information about this concerning development.
This is unbelievable and shocking.

And the tragic part is that they show kids in their advertisements. I must agree that I grew up eating Maggi noodles all my childhood to my entire college life ( say 2-3 times a week). MSG is not good for health, that is a no brainer.. BUT "LEAD" THAT REALLY BAD !!

And what about ATTA Maggi - they claim it to be really healthy.

What about other noodles like Yippie, Top Ramen etc ?? I am sure those results are not far away.

They should not just be banned but heavily fined. Can you imagine the kind of damage they have done to our Indian society.

Thanks for bringing this up to my knowledge.

BTW: I am 100% sure, nothing will happen. This is India. Some babu's/neta's pockets will be filled with money and no ban will take place. People will soon forget about this whole episode. May be Maggi will then be classified equivalent to ORGANIC food .. Big Grin
Nestle has released an official notification on their website refuting the charges/incident. They claim to have hired services of independent labs to test the alleged MSG and Lead levels and publish the reports publicly for reference of one and all.

Let's hope that our "2 minutes Maggi Noodles" don't get a ban Sad
In continuation of precautionary measures, Maggi has now been banned for 15 days in Delhi. India's food safety regulator issued orders for quality tests of Maggi batches across the entire nation!

Also, Indian Army issued an advisory/order forbidding its personnel from consuming the 2-minute snack until further orders. The orders have been passed to over 1000 Army canteens to set aside the existing stock.

Union food minister Ram Vilas Paswan has expressed concern over the mounting fear and ordered nationwide tests for Maggi and Maggi-type snacks.
Statement from Nestle regarding Maggi Noodles safety

Lets hear the story from both sides of the isle ..

Press release from Nestle:

In spite of MAGGI Noodles being safe, Nestlé India decides to take the products off the shelves

NESTLE HOUSE, Gurgaon, Jun 5, 2015

MAGGI Noodles are completely safe and have been trusted in India for over 30 years.
The trust of our consumers and the safety of our products is our first priority. Unfortunately, recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product have led to an environment of confusion for the consumer, to such an extent that we have decided to withdraw the product off the shelves, despite the product being safe.

We promise that the trusted MAGGI Noodles will be back in the market as soon as the current situation is clarified.

Are MAGGI Noodles safe to eat?

Yes. We are confident that our MAGGI Noodle products in India and elsewhere are absolutely safe for consumption.
Food safety is Nestlé's number one priority. We do more food testing that any other entity in the world and have many stringent controls to guarantee safety: starting from the raw materials we use, throughout processing to packaging.
We have tested around 1,000 batches of MAGGI Noodles in our own laboratories and also asked an independent lab to test an additional 600 product batches. Almost 125 million or 12.5 Crore packets were tested in total. The test results confirm that MAGGI Noodles are safe, with lead levels well within the food safety limits specified by the Indian authorities.
