Hello Malay,

Sorry for the delayed response, I was on a vacation. IIT Kgp and IIT Madras are also well known for their placements. If I have to make a choice, I will go for Kharagpur (keeping placements in mind).

Hope it helps

Hello Prankur,

Preliminary Screening pattern is common for MTech and PhD (i.e written test is similar).

Interviews will be of 2 rounds. Those who clear the first round will be taken for lab visits and will be grilled for final selection in the second round of interview.

In the first round, you'll be asked questions to test your basic concepts which you learnt in your previous course. They may also ask questions on your projects.

Second round is expected to be more tricky and detailed (your concepts will be tested). Aptitude matters a lot in this round.

Do not guess any answers nor be too overconfident. If you do not know, simply accept and say no.

Don't project yourself as someone whose life depends upon this interview.

Select and read about the guides you want to work under.

Above Information is first hand experience of a student from IIT Kanpur.

Hope it helps

Stay positive and best wishes

Hello Malay,

Let us assume I am your interviewer at IITB.

My first question:

Malay, you said that you would like to work on Stem Cell Technology. What exactly do you want to work on?

As you answer, my questions will follow.

[My aim is to ensure that, whatever you say there, you should be crystal clear about your aims/intentions. Nothing should be said in air (like I want to be a Genetic Engineer: it is one of the most vague/extremely broad terms used by students, which mostly lands them in soup]
Hello Sunil sir,
Actually i want to do work on "how can embryonic stem cells be used for treating cardiovascular diseases"

Can you explain your approach for carrying out this study? What would be your plan of action? What if we don't have any professor working on stem cells?
Hello Sunil sir,
If there will not be any professor working on stem cells then,i have another topic "processes of producing artificial organs like heart, kidneys which can be used for transplantation".What about this topic?
