Hello
Don't worry! They do not usually reject applications over some minor mistake provided you inform them as soon as possible (phone or email-preferably phone admissions office) and follow required steps. Also check FAQ section and other sections of the admission portal as they may already have a protocol in place for such situations.

@Sunil My GATE rank is 249 and score is 563 (OBC) 2014 B.Tech biotechnology pass out . I am working in a pharma company as a research executive in Fermentation-upstream processing since June 2015. I understand from this thread that i have to apply to all the IITs. Kindly give a guide on how to prepare for interviews and screening test. If you think i need to definitely apply for any course which is relevant to my profile please mention. Is there a chance of getting a call from IIT delhi, If yes what are your tips to tackle it?

Hello Sunil,

Can you please provide some info about the differences between GATE Life Sciences (XL) and Biotech (BT) when it comes to MTech/PhD admission?

I have a Masters in Zoology, and a 90.8 percentile (score: 440, AIR: 973) in GATE 2017 Life Sciences (XL) and is trying to understand which institutes accept XL score and would be practical for me to apply?

Thanks,
Sharmistha

I do not want to roam around many different cities for admission and get disappointed when I do not get selected. Can you please suggest me the IITs where I have a better chance of getting admission rather than just been shortlisted. Thank you

Hello YoHo ,

Congrats for the achievement.

First of all you can't avoid moving between cities. If you are shortlisted for screening in 5 institutes, your chances of getting selected in all 5 of them are equal. It eventually boils down to 'your own choices and preferences in case of clashes'. (Suggest you to go through 'Success/ Failure stories at http://in.biotechstudents.com/category/e.../my-story/).

Based on your rank and score (and recent news about IIT Bombay's cutoff), you stand a chance of getting shortlisted by almost every IIT.

It would eventually depend upon your written test and interview during the screening at various IITs. As I mentioned in one of my experiences, a person in Top 10 of GATE BT in 2011 was not selected after written test. And I, with a percentile of 99.6 was knocked out of the interview at IIT Kanpur. During screening, your GATE Rank/Marks hardly matter, if you won't clear their written, you will be sent back; if you can't handle their interview questions, you will be shown the door (no matter you're Rank 1 or Rank 500 person).

When it comes to really great interviews by every candidate, that's when interviewers are forced to use the GATE Marks and Screening marks for final selection.

Your marks are good enough to compete with everyone out there. All you need to do is "move ahead and face the heat".

Apply everywhere, when it comes to clashes, we will discuss later and decide. Till then, all the best.

Thank you sir for your esteemed response.

I was browsing through cutoffs at IITD and found that M.Tech in Molecular Engineering; Chemical Synthesis and Analysis has very low cut off. Is a person of M.Sc biotechnology with GATE-BT paper eligible for this course?

Thank you.
