Ok...in that case, let's stay positive for IIT B. In a rare case, if it's not a positive response from IITB (which I doubt given your excellent performance in GATE and a fair interview), IIT Kharagpur should be your preference.

I just checked your interview experience. Thanks a lot for sharing it. It is definitely going to inspire a lot of aspirants. And, do they still ask for the background (Mathematics in 12th or not AND exposure to biology or not) to decide the category of written exam you'll be giving in IITB? I see that your exam was MCQ based (in my case in 2011 it wasn't MCQ based). So some changes have been there quite evidently..Great to read your experience! I wish more of the students could share their experiences (success/failure). It helps a lot..

All the best for your career ahead. And stay positive! You have ample opportunities already in hand (Kgp and Chennai) so there shouldn't be any need to worry.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for the encouragement. Sir, I just want to ask many IIT's like Kharagpur etc have written that 70% gate score and 30 % interview/assessment based on written tests as selection criteria. So, in that case what are the chances as someone in top 25 has a score of more than 800("he/she clearly has an edge"). And I am interested in fields related to bio medical and my second priority will be bioinformatics. Sir plz guide me as I am stuck in a tricky situation. My gate score :- 602 @ 137 rank.

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,

70-30 criterion comes into play when the Interviews are too difficult to decide the candidate. But, even if a top 10 rank holder gives a bad interview, he will not be selected (I can guarantee that to you, that's well witnessed).

So, focus well on your written and interviews coming ahead. You can choose your specialization through the project you work upon during your Masters. In IIT Madras, you can specifically go for Computational Biotechnology as a sub-branch. In, IIT Delhi, if some one works with Dr. Sundar, his/her branch of specialization is expected to be Bioinformatics. So, that's how you can choose your field of interest. But that's a long shot from here. Right now, the focus should be preparations for written and interviews.

Best wishes

Hi Sir!!

This is to inform you that I have been selected in IIT Bombay ( M.Tech. Biomedical). Thanks for your guidance and support. I have been following this forum for the past two years and this has really helped in my preparations and helped me to overcome the fear of unknown.
I really appreciate the amount of effort you put in to guide youngsters like us.

I have a message for all of you that once you get a call, rank hardly matters. Be clear with this as this happened in my case. My rank was 137 (gate score :- 602 ) and luckily I got a call from IIT Bombay. I cleared the written(multiple choice questions) test and got selected for the interview round. In the interview round there were many top 50 candidates and I saw many candidates getting anxious as they thought that they wont get selected as the top rankers will grab all the seats. But if you are confident and well prepared for the written test and interview you will definitely get admission in any IIT after you get a call.

Thanking You
Rob

Congrats Rob!

I am delighted to know this and I'm glad that this forum was useful to some extent (at the end of the day, it's all your hard work). You have a brilliant future ahead! Stay proactive during your 2 years at IITB. Exploit every opportunity beyond academics (IITB has plenty to offer: fests/activity clubs/extra-curricular facilities/positions of responsibilities etc).

And, if I'll be extremely thankful if you could pen down your admission experience (from applications at various IITs to written tests/interviews) and share it with the students here. It will be useful and an updated information for future aspirants (I try to keep my self updated through my juniors joining here in my company, but I hope you understand the importance of reading through someone's own experience.)

All the best for all your future endeavors and feel free to drop down some time here on this forum to discuss/share something in future.

Best wishes

Hello sir.sorry to bother you again.
Can you please guide me what subject should i prepare for written test for phd at kusuma school of biological sciences.
I will look forward to your response. I will be really grateful for your help
Thank you
Hello Shivani,

About written: The written test will examine the analytical ability of students with examples from biology, and does not require memorization of any biological terminologies. A sample question paper is attached to this reponse.

About interview: Your preparation should be best for your project. Followed by a subject of your interest which they might ask about.

Best wises
