Please reply me sir I am very confused what to do further please guide me sir.
Awaiting for you reply.
My email: vnvadityasharma@gmail.com
Thank you.

Hi Aditya,

Research publication is not a must. All those who are in contact with me, got direct admission to PhD in NUS after their B.Tech, without any research publication.

Hope it boosts your confidence.

Best wishes

Hello Sir,
Let me introduce myself.  I am Shilpa ,I have completed my BE in Electronics and Communication (2012 pass out)- 81% and my GATE Score : 593(GATE rank : 2930)
I am currently working in a Software company & have 2 years of work experience .I am interested in doing my M.Eng from Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering from NUS using my GATE score .
I would like to know what are my chances of getting selected on the basis of the above profile as I have not published any research papers, my final year project was also a very average one and with my current GATE score it is very difficult to get into in any good college in India so I wanted to explore other options.
Do we need to have an interaction with faculty of our interest in order to confirm our admission
Will they consider me for scholarship and what are job prospects on completion of the course?
The last date for applying is May 15, 2015 and I have very little time so could you please help me out.
I shall be highly obliged if you could guide me.
Thank you once again and awaiting your reply.

Regards,
Shilpa

how sir,
in lieu of admission in NUS I would like to know is it important to have a publication for enrolling in PhD programme (biotech)?
is the GATE %tile of above 90 sufficient fulfilling the gpa of 3.5/5 or we also need to have ielts when we apply through GATE score?

Hello Shilpa,
You can get a call from NUS based on your profile, irrespective of your publications. The only hiccup being the fact that scholarship funds are offered to PhD candidates in preference. You may or may not  get supported by scholarship.
Contacting professors is advisable  for PhD coursework. You may still try if you wish to make an attempt.

You may try for PhD if you have an interest in pursuing it.

Hope it helps.

Best wishes

Hello Vishakha

No, publications aren't must. And IELTS is advisable to those whose medium of study in 12th and BTech wasnt english.
Your performance is sufficient to get an interview call.

Hope it helps.

All the best!

Hello Sunil,
I had done my Bachelors in Biotech (2006-10) from VITU. I followed it up with a Masters in Biotechnology Bioprocessing and Business Management from University of Warwick, UK (Graduated in Jan 13). Unfortunately, I could only muster a 2:2 in my Masters.  I am working in Biotechnology sector (Marketing and sales) for a stem cell banking company and have a couple of years of work experience, along with writing business plans for couple of SMEs for fund raising. I am really interested in the NUS Phd MBA program and I am planning to take up GRE/GATE to improve my academic profile. Which would you recommend amongst the two? I would be much obliged, if you could throw some light on the admissions pattern and any inputs on the required GRE/GMAT scores will also be really helpful. I am planning to apply for the 16 intake. In the meantime, any other suggestions to improve my profile? Kudos to your efforts and time, awaiting your reply.

Thanks and Regards,
Shriram

Hello Shriram,
You should go for GRE general test (that's what is needed for PhD MBA program). GATE might not be accepted for this program (although appearing for GATE too will definitely boost your case, if you clear the exam).

Your marks in Masters shouldn't worry you much. You are still eligible to apply for the program.

There's no minimum cut-off for GRE score to apply for this program. But GRE is a must. It is possible to apply without a GRE score if a test has been scheduled. The score can then be sent later.

GMAT is not compulsory.

If you are employed, then attend workshops/international conferences in the field of your interest (especially those inclined towards Bio-entrepreneurship). This will boost your profile.

According to the PhD-MBA committee, " Applicants are welcome to contact potential PhD advisors before submitting the application. This could help focus the proposal, for example" . It's thus advisable to contact a prof of interest.

Scholarship:
The scholarship of S$2,600 to S$3,200 per month paid for 12 months per year, includes accommodation expenses.

Admission cycles:
The application cycle for August of the coming year usually opens in September of the current year.

Hope it helps

If there's any other assistance you need, do let me know.

Best wishes

Sunil

Dear Sunil,
Firstly, thank you for letting me pick your brain. I will definitely prep my profile accordingly and concentrate on GRE. I am already in touch with my "potential external supervisor" and will do the same in the NUS dept.
As a follow up to your suggestions of conferences and workshops, my field of interest and intent is commercialization of stem cells applications (esp. Mesenchymal stem cells in cardiovascular and skin related). Where can I find the details of conferences and workshops related to this (preferably within India, as my managerial work does not let me travel extensively). Again, thanks for the virtual acquaintance and time. Much obliged.

Thanks and Regards,
Shriram

Hello Shriram,

You are welcome. Rather, it has been my pleasure interacting with the community so diverse and curious. There's so much to learn and know beyond the boundaries of one's routine.

About the conferences/workshops related to your field of interest, try looking into the following:
a) http://www.biotechnologycongress.com/india/
b) http://cancer.global-summit.com/india/
c) http://healthcare.indoglobalsummit.com/

There are some training/workshops on Stem Cell Therapy organized by various institutes in India (asking for around INR 10,000/- per head). You may go for one of them, if you find the workshop content interesting.

Also, try attending this one: http://www.iimb.ernet.in/node/5912

Hope it helps

Best wishes

Hi Sunil.

I had applied for NUS PhD in Materials Engineering for August 2015 intake. Phone interview was on March 4th 2015. I have not yet got any outcome of the interview. In the interview they said they will let me know by April 1st week. I mailed them but no reply.

Any idea when NUS would start sending the offer letters for PhD August intake?

Thanks,
Deepak k
