Tips for Admission in National University of Singapore
Hello sir,
Iam sneha doing my M.Tech in IITD which will be completed in june 2016.I have done my B.tech in Petro-chemical engg. I want to join for Ph.D in NUS in material science.I haven't published any paper till now and i haven't given GRE or TOEFL/IELTS. I have GATE-2014 score of 495 (AIR-962) in chemical engg paper.
Will i be able to apply only with this GATE score or i have to give GATE 2016. Is GRE/TOEFL exams mandatory ? if so after giving those exams and getting results, will i be able to apply for august intake 2016 or it will be late ?

kindly please guide me what i should do now for getting admission for August 2016 intake at NUS.

Thanks & regards,
sneha

ubject:- Query regarding NUS P.hd admission

Hello Sir,
I am a student pursuing my M.tech from NIT Hamirpur and I did my B.tech from NIT Agartala.
My B.tech pointer is low i.e., 6.92
My M.tech pointer is Ok 8.34
GATE-2014 percentile 96.3
Total 5 Academic projects.
2 international journal publications in Under-review
Good extracurricular
2 strong recommendation
No teaching experience.
NO GRE or TOEFL/IELTS
I want to apply for P.hd January 2017 intake.
My questions are as follows
1) Do I need to add some more  projects and teaching experience .
2) My GATE score will be valid till 27th March, 2016 and deadline is 15th June, 2016. If I  fill online application before 27th, will it be acceptable for January intake.
3) On looking above details, what prospect you see for me.
4) Are they going to take interview, if yes, then who take it guide I am opting for or someone from addmission bench.
5) Is there anything like you have to be from  IIT to get more value.

Hope you consider my queries and revert back to me.

Thank you very much....

Thank you very much....
1) You have good projects and nice prospective research profile. It is sufficient.
2) You need another GATE or GRE score to apply.
3) Your B.Tech CGPA is the only concern (but if as per your university norms, you stand in second division, then you are eligible).
4) Interview is not by your guide, but by random experts (who may or may not be from your area of expertise). Interview mainly focuses on your aptitude.
5) No, IITs are not given preference. It is equal opportunity to all deserving and well interviewed candidates.

All the best

Hello All,

I have completed my B.E. in Biotechnology from MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore which is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University and approved by AICTE. I completed my B.E. in 2012 (aggregate - 71.5%), then I cleared BCIL exam for Industrial internship for 6 months which i did in Biocon R&D facility - Product development and Pharma Lab (Upstream Processing Lab). Then I was offered a Job in QC dept. of Biocon - Enzymes and APIs, where i worked for 1.4 years. Then I got an offer with Aurigene as a RA, which I gladly accepted since it was in the Biochemistry dept. The work I do is on drug discovery in Oncology and inflammatary areas. I have worked in Aurigene since then. But I feel the need to obtain a higher degree to learn more and to do get better opportunities in the corporate world. Hence, I wrote GATE-2016, I'm expecting a score of 580 +/- 40. Also I would like to add that they have shut down the dept. of Biotechnology from my college recently. Do I stand a chance for making it into NUS for a Ph'D research program, if yes, from whom can I get my LORs?

Thanks for the Help.

Darshan

Hello Darshan,

You do have strong chances of making it to NUS.

You should get one LOR from your training guide and other from HOD of your department (even after your department closes). You can also get LORs from your employer (supervisor) if HOD is not available.

Biocon as a brand is well recognized in Asia and Europe. An LOR from any of the person from Biocon (holding a good position), will be of great help.

Also, contact someone at NUS (professor under whom you wish to pursue the degree).

Hope it helps

Hi stevewoods,

Thank you for your quick and brief reply, and also for reinstating faith in me that I can make it to NUS.
Your advice on the topic of LOR is also quite helpful.

Thank you again.

Hi,

I have a GATE 2016 percentile of 99.87, GRE 327, TOEFL 112 and CGPA 8.4. I have applied for PhD at NUS and NTU. What are my chances? And any tips?

With such a great GRE score you should be applying in US universities as well!

Your GATE score/percentile is well above their (NUS) minimum requirement of 90.

My answer to your question is obvious: You have very high chances of getting the interview call!
