Hey Malay....is your friend havin any first hand experience of IIT Kgp and IIT Madras?? Dont just go by words, look for the experience of the people who say something about an institute....

Dear Sir,
I am Indranil Mukherjee, I have completed MSc Biochemistry from University of Calcutta in 2015 with 62% and BSc from Nagpur University with 71%(university second topper), I have scored 82% in HSC and 91% in SSC. I was teaching students after that and was parallely preparing for GATE XL . I have cleared GATE XL 2016 and I have AIR 168 with 98.87 percentile. I have applied for Mtech in all IITs and recieved call letters too. I have got direct offer letter from IIT Kharagpur from Department of Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering. So I never went anywhere for interviews and accepted the offer. Now I came to your forum and got to know this thing that its better to go for Phd after MSc but I have keen interest in getting first hand experience in all technical parts in biotechnology and then I want to go for Phd. My question for you is willI be getting any benifit of doing MTech in future in research aspect? Will I be facing any problem in getting job placement (in case I opt for job after MTech)? Should I apply for NUS now or I will be aboe to apply after my MTech too ? Please help sir.
Dear Sir,
I have completed B.Tech Biotechnology. Now I got offer for M.Tech Biotechnology from MNNIT Allahabad and M.S.C Biotechnology from IIT Roorkee. Which one should I accept? I am little confused.

Hey Kamya,

If it is MSc (not MS) then go for MTech. Doing MSc after BTech will be a waste of BTech.

Hello Malay,

That's great and quite expected (considering your GATE performance). Congrats for that. As far as placements are concerned, it is tough to compare these two institutes (both are more famous for their research inclination). IIT Delhi / Bombay / Kanpur should be your targets if placement is your key concern.
Having said that, the institutional role won't matter if you are proactive in academic and co-curricular activities. Every IIT offers ample opportunities for placements (all of which are called by students only). I am quite sure that the fact that most of PG students of IIT Kgp / Chennai look for PhD after Masters, contributes to their low popularity on placements. Still, there are a couple of people from both IIT Kgp and IIT Chennai working with me in my company (which reflects upon existence of opportunities).

If you seek a general opinion, then (after voting with my colleagues): Clinical engineering will be too specific a field which might restrict your career to that field only (unless you are interested in Clinical Engg). IIT Kgp would be a better choice.

Hope it helps and all the best for the results of IIT Bombay/Kanpur/ Delhi.
R/S sir,
I have completed MSc in microbiology from UTD barkatullah university Bhopal n qualified gate in Xl category with just passing marks
Do I have chance in biotech industry???
