I have cleared Gate BT 2016 with AIR 202 and score 573 (percentile : 97.7). I wanted to know if I should apply at IITs with this score as they usually prefer score above 600. Also what is the minimum percentile or cut-off  required for MS-R at School of Biological Sciences IIT-Delhi. They have not specified any cut off in their brochure for biotechnology and biosciences department.

Thanks

Regards
Anu

Hello Anu,

You can apply at IIT Madras, Kanpur, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Kharagpur (there are high chances of getting a call).

IIT Delhi and Bombay usually call for students above 600 score.

If you decide to choose some other departments, then you can apply at most of the IITs.

Please refer THIS LINK (the start of this thread basically), for a better idea.

Applying at NUS is always suggested, so do apply.

Hi Shivani,

I am not sure if IIT Delhi has a different cut-off for GATE XL. Usually they call for students with > 600 score. You may apply for Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, IIT Delhi though for a PhD.

As you have already completed your MSc, I would suggest you to look for PhD in a reputed institute (like some CSIR lab/IISc/ IISER or National Univ of Singapore). Your GATE score will be good enough for getting there.

As far as IITs are concerned, you will get calls from IIT Kanpur, Madras, Guwahati, Madras (high chances).

All the best!

Hello sweta,

I am afraid that 372 score might not be sufficient to get a call for PhD from most of IITs (you may try at Guwahati and Hyderabad though).

Given your good experience and academic profile, I am sure you will make a good candidate for NUS and HKTU (if your GATE percentile is above 90).

Hope it helps

Best wishes

Hello Raj,

IITs release the cut-offs after application closure. You will need to apply for IITs based on your judgment and previous experiences. PhD program of CSIR is really well recognized and is of high repute. If you have an offer, you should go for it without a second thought.

As I keep telling to everyone, please do make a good use of your GATE score if you have above 90 percentile by applying at NUS, HKTU, NTU.

Hope it helps.

Thats why am writing my query here.I scored 365 in GATE XL 2016,AIR 1476,percentile 99.9 (Gen catagory). I am from msc medical microbiology background. I want to pursue Phd in Microbiology,Cell biology or Immunology. Pls let me know whether I can apply any of the colleges with my score.

Hello, p44,

Please do let me know the maximum no. of students that appeared in GATE XL this year. Was it above 1 lakh??
You have a great percentile, but the score is lesser for most IITs. If they release a separate cut-off for GATE XL, then you can hope for calls for most IITs given your high percentile.

You should vouch for NUS (given the high percentile again).

If GATE score is the criterion, then IIT Hyderabad and Guwahati can be tried.

Do apply at NUS though!
